Scarecrow Donation Request
9/19/2022 2:47 pm
It's that time of year again at OP! Third and fourth graders have planted their gardens, and OP students will need to build some scarecrows to protect their gardens. Please consider cleaning out your closets and donating to help our gardens. We need button down shirts, pants with belt loops, and pillow cases. You may send donations in with your child, or if you plan to be in the building you can drop items off in the donation bin in the lobby. Thanks in advance for your help!
If you have questions, please contact Heather.

Green Team Volunteers Needed
9/4/2022 5:29 pm
Are you an avid recycler and interested in a rewarding experience working with OP students to collect recyclables from classrooms? This is a great way to kick off your day!
Our students love this opportunity to be industrious leaders in their school while making the world a better place. We are looking for at least 4 volunteers to supervise and manage OP's Green Team. Green Team meets on Wednesday and Friday mornings, so we will need 2 adults for each day. Each volunteer will have approximately 4 students to instruct and supervise while they collect recyclables from classrooms and take them to the dumpster.
Volunteers must arrive by 7:55am and sign in with lobby guard, so they are ready to start at 8:00am. Students should complete tasks by 8:30am, so they can return to their classroom for instruction at this time. Your teacher contact will be Mrs. Sebo.

In order to serve as an OP volunteer, in a classroom, field trip or PTA setting, you must be a registered CMS Volunteer. It can take a few days for your registration to be approved, so please do it now and then you'll be set for the whole year! We would hate to turn you away and it's for the safety of our children.
*If you registered as a volunteer for a previous school year, you still need to renew your volunteer status each school year!

1/10/2022 9:51 am
Chess Club meetings are held on Mondays at 7:30 AM in the Media Center. The first meeting will be Jan. 31. At the club meetings, we split into small groups, do a short lesson (5-10 minutes), and students play games against each other for about 20 minutes with some light coaching.
Monday attendance will be limited to 44 students due to COVID restrictions. In respecting this limit, we will prioritize returning members, siblings, and grades 2-5.
If we have more interest than can be accommodated at our regular club meetings, we will look to create additional opportunities for participation. Some possibilities include:
- Occasional Saturday meetings at the public library
- Chess Club Jr. sessions for K-1
- Scrimmages with other elementary schools
- A "Chess Picnic" at a neighborhood park
These extra events we will usually look to schedule for early Saturday morning, which helps to minimize conflicts with other activities.
This year, instead of a registration fee, we will collect optional donations through the PTA website. We will provide more details after registration.
